Kraken’s Jesse Powell donates $1M in crypto to Trump campaign

Jesse Powell, the co-founder of Kraken, has announced on X that he has personally donated $1 million, mostly in Ether, to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

Powell emphasized his support for Trump as the only major party candidate currently advocating for pro-crypto policies.

“I am excited to join other leaders from our community to unite behind the only pro-crypto major party candidate in the 2024 Presidential election so the United States can continue to remain a leader in blockchain technology.”

Powell criticizes the Biden administration.

Powell criticized the Biden administration’s regulatory stance on the crypto industry, targeting figures like Senator Elizabeth Warren and SEC Chair Gary Gensler for undermining U.S. competitiveness.

“For too long, Elizabeth Warren, Gary Gensler, and others have been attacking the crypto industry.”

Powell supports Trump and advocates for Ulbricht.

Powell sees Trump’s 2024 presidential candidacy as an opportunity for the U.S. to lead in blockchain technology.

“I’m enthusiastic about joining other leaders in our community to rally behind the only pro-crypto major party candidate in the 2024 Presidential election, ensuring the United States maintains its leadership in blockchain technology.”

The post, featuring a photo of Powell and Trump solidifying their alliance, also included the hashtag #freeross, in support of Ross Ulbricht.

In 2015, Ulbricht received a life sentence without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 40 years, for founding and managing the online black market Silk Road, known for anonymous transactions of goods and services.

RFK Jr. pledges to pardon Ulbricht if elected.

On June 20, U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced in a post on X that he would release Ulbricht from prison if elected in November.

“Ross Ulbricht has spent too many years behind bars. Two life sentences for operating an e-commerce platform. Yes, illegal activities occurred, but let’s be reasonable.”

After committing to pardon Ulbricht upon assuming the presidency, RFK Jr. declared his intention to sign a petition advocating for Ulbricht’s release and urged readers to support the cause as well.
