June Sees Crypto Hackers Swipe $176.2 Million: Report

During a bearish market in June, the crypto ecosystem experienced an uptick in hacking incidents. Data from PeckShield reveals that hackers pilfered $176.2 million from crypto platforms during the month, marking a 54.2% decline from May’s total of $574.6 million.

According to data from the blockchain security company’s X post, April recorded the lowest number of hacks this year, totaling $60.19 million. The total amount lost to hackers in the crypto space this year has now exceeded $1.5 billion.

In June, the largest crypto hack occurred at the Turkish trading platform BtcTurk, where attackers stole $100.25 million after compromising the company’s hot wallets, affecting at least 10 different cryptocurrencies, as reported by crypto.news on June 22.

Following closely, the second-largest hack involved the British crypto exchange Lykke, with hackers absconding with over $22 million from the company.

Additionally, UwU Lend, Holograph, and Velocore rounded out the top five with losses of $19.4 million, $14.4 million, and $6.8 million to hackers in June, respectively.

According to Immunefi’s report, the crypto industry suffered $572.7 million in losses from hacks and scams in Q2 of this year, with 72 fraudulent incidents recorded over the past three months.

Crystal Intelligence data reveals that the crypto industry has lost nearly $20 billion to hacks and scams between 2011 and March 2024, spanning a total of 785 breaches.
