Elon Musk’s X has sparked confusion in the crypto community by removing several cryptocurrency emojis, including the Bitcoin emoji, which had been available for over four years. The removal of these emojis occurred on July 25, leaving many users puzzled about the reasons behind the decision.
X Removes Bitcoin and Other Crypto Emojis
The cryptocurrency community has reacted swiftly to the removal of crypto emojis from X, expressing disappointment over the missing symbols.
Some speculate that the removal of Bitcoin emojis could negatively affect Bitcoin’s price. However, the deletions were not limited to Bitcoin alone.
Other cryptocurrencies, such as Crypto.com Coin (CRO) and BNB (BNB), have also had their hashtags removed from X. These emojis were introduced in 2020.
As noted earlier, X co-founder Jack Dorsey introduced the Bitcoin emoji in February 2020, when Bitcoin was trading around $10,000, according to CoinGecko data.
Removal of Emojis Coincides with Bitcoin 2024 Conference
The crypto community is baffled by the removal of crypto emojis on X, coinciding with the start of the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville on July 25.
The conference will host major speakers, including Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has positioned himself as a pro-crypto candidate. Trump is scheduled to speak on July 27.
Before removing cryptocurrency emojis from X, Musk had added a dedicated emoji for the Trump-themed memecoin MAGA (TRUMP) on July 18. This emoji, which depicted Trump with a raised fist following an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, has also been removed. Musk had shared a photo of Trump after the incident and expressed his full endorsement of Trump as a presidential candidate.
