Drake Loses $500,000 Bitcoin Wager as Mavericks’ NBA Finals Outcome Disappoints

Drake’ $1 Million Bitcoin Bet

Amidst the excitement of the NBA Finals on June 6, Drake took to Instagram to share a screenshot revealing his substantial Bitcoin bet on the Mavericks, potentially yielding winnings of $1.37 million.

Despite his optimism, the outcome of the 2024 NBA Finals brought disappointment for Drake. The Boston Celtics claimed their 18th championship, defeating the Mavericks decisively with a series score of 4-1.

In a pivotal Game 5, the Celtics secured a commanding 106-88 victory on their home court, clinching a historic NBA championship and surpassing the Lakers for the most titles in NBA history.

Alongside his NBA bet, Drake disclosed another significant wager. He placed an additional $500,000 bet on the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup.

The upcoming final game, scheduled for June 22, presents a high-stakes scenario where Drake could either double his recent losses to $1 million or make a substantial recovery. A victory by the Oilers would net Drake $1.025 million.

“Dallas cause I’m a Texan. Oilers are self explanatory,” Drake captioned the Instagram post.

Drake is renowned for his penchant for high-stakes betting. As an official partner of the betting platform Stake, he has a track record that includes significant wins and notable losses.

In 2022, Drake faced losses exceeding $230,000 in BTC from betting on Formula One driver Charles Leclerc at the Spanish Grand Prix. He also lost more than $200,000 betting on Jorge Masvidal in a UFC match against Colby Covington.

However, Drake has also enjoyed substantial betting wins. His wagers on the NFL Finals in 2022 resulted in earnings exceeding $2 million. These contrasting outcomes underscore the unpredictable nature of high-stakes gambling, especially within the realm of crypto.

Drake’s active participation in such betting activities reflects a broader trend among celebrities engaging in high-risk, high-reward scenarios involving cryptocurrencies. Despite his estimated net worth of $250 million, losses in Bitcoin or traditional currency remain significant for him.
